Notes on learning a language out loud — spaced repetition, hands-free practice, and why Colloquial works the way it does.
Most flashcard sessions end with a tap. Colloquial ends each card with your voice, because when the card arrives as a phone call, the phone is already at your ear.
The product depends on your phone actually ringing at a time you picked, and getting two operating systems to allow that ended up being most of the work.
A reminder is easy to ignore, and a ringing phone is not, and that difference is the entire product.
The words were all in my deck. They just sounded completely different coming out of an actual person.
